Building a block buster

“BETTER than The Block”. That’s the promising claim of one senior Nine staffer in regard to the network’s next reality hope, HomeMade.

From the uber-producers Julian Cress and David Barbour, tight allies of chief executive David Gyngell and creators of ratings winner The Block, the interior design series has high hopes attached ahead of its April debut.

Hosted by Orson & Blake’s David Heimann, HomeMade sees contestants (pictured, exclusively) vie for a $100,000 prize and the opportunity to move into the beautification business.

As the program wrapped last week, Cress and Barbour were busy watching the US debut of their American version of The Chopping Block, fronted by celebrity chef Marco Pierre White.

In a tough slot against American Idol, the new program managed to equal the timeslot’s previous occupant, Knight Rider. Congrats, boys.
